Oracle did not do such a good job with releasing nVision that was fully-compliant with the architecture of Excel 2007 and 2010.
When we upgraded to PeopleTools 8.51.11 in November of 2011, we had to go live with all the layouts still in old Excel architecture running in compatibility mode. When we initially tried using upgraded layouts the users had no end of trouble running the reports.
In April 2012, we upgraded to PeopleTools 8.52.06 and finally we have been able to run nVision with upgraded layouts without any issues.
I'm not exactly sure which sub-release of Tools 8.52 fixed all the issues, to go for 8.52.06 or above if you can.
